Founding Statement

The Chicago Committee in Solidarity with the People of Iran stands with myriad organizations and individuals around the world in condemning the Islamic Republic's imprisonment of Iranian student activists in recent weeks. In suppressing the rights of these students to freedom of expression and association, these measures stand in direct violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We join organizations such as Amnesty International and International PEN in calling on the government of Iran to release the jailed students and to respect the rights of free expression and association of all Iranians, not only those whose views are officially sanctioned.
